The Ram Battery

“Tuba” Emenheiser 22T03

Tuba is a ram lamb we are leasing from Joe Emenheiser of Connecticut. We had been watching for a ram that would add girth, foot size, and breed character to our flock, and when we saw what Joe was getting as a result of his embryo transfer work with certain Batt bloodlines he had carefully selected, we knew he was on to something. We had worked with Joe in the past on a couple rams, and we were thrilled to hear he was willing to lease Tuba. The first lambs out of Tuba are consistently rugged and heavy-duty beyond any sire group we have ever had. We are excited to see how they develop, and we hope to make many of them available to our customers in our 2023 Production Sale in September.

“Timberline” Kimm 19033

We purchased Timberline in the Kimm 2020 Production Sale. His pedigree is stacked with muscle and production from top to bottom, and his NSIP stat for muscling is +3.8! We retained his high scanning son and a large group of his daughters from 2021 and they did an impressive job in the lambing barn as yearlings. He is currently our lead sire for the 3rd breeding season in a row. His lambs exhibit outstanding muscling with length and width to go with it.

“Sycamore” Season’s Bounty 1049

Sycamore was our pick of the Hickory sons to keep from 2021. He is out of the 1056 ewe family which has been a very strong maternal line for us over the years… prolific, thick, easy keeping, calm, excellent milkers with excellent udders. His first crop of lambs have been growthy, eye-catching and muscled. The top scanning lamb out of all 46 suffolks at the 2022 Virginia Ram Test Station was a Sycamore son.

“George” Season’s Bounty 1008

George was our pick of the first crop of Timberline sons to retain and use in our flock. He had the highest muscle scan of all the lambs scanned at our farm in 2021 and his twin brother had the highest muscle scan out of around 90 rams at the 2021 VA ram test station.

“Rio” Season’s Bounty 0093

Rio was a triplet Hickory son out of a 2-year old Mint Gold 3007 daughter from one of our best original ewe families. He combines the girth and rugged bone/foot size from the Batt genetics on his sire's side and the muscling, level length, and ears from his maternal side. Rio was a featured lot in our 2020 production sale that received a lot of attention. We purchased him back from Brad Smith of WV after hearing positive reports about his first lamb crop. Watch for his lambs, as we plan to use him hard this fall!

“Hickory” Kimm 16035

We returned to the Kimm Production Sale in 2016 looking for a stout, heavily-muscled ram, and Hickory was an easy pick for us. After seeing his first 2 lamb crops, we started using him more heavily with around 100 lambs in 2019 and even more in 2020. His lambs exhibit extra width, tremendous rib shape, increased bone/foot size, and lots of muscle. He has become a landmark sire for our flock. The group of 10 yearling ewes we sold to Clemson University in 2020 were all his daughters. His 3 sons in the 2020 Virginia Ram Test Sale all sold for at least $900 each with 2 of them posting the highest muscle scans out of the 33 Suffolk rams at the test station.

“Tahoe” Schrock/Zook 4076

Tahoe was our pick of the first batch of home-raised Teton sons! Tahoe weighed 117 lbs at 77 days of age for a WDA of 1.52 lbs. His lambs are growthy, long, and level with great breed character and calm dispositions. Tahoe daughters tend to have outstanding maternal traits… early maturity, prolific, and they are outstanding milkers with excellent udders. Tahoe’s mother had triplets in 2019 and 2020, and twins in 2021 and 2022… triplets again in 2023 at 11 years of age. She has given us literally hundreds of descendants since we have used multiple sons and grandsons as sires in our flock, with Tahoe being the most influential.
